Key Fob and Remote Programming in Coronado and San Diego

New fob, lost remote or an extra one for the family. We program it to your car on site in Coronado and San Diego.

Every day, 7:30 AM to 10:30 PM

Key fob programming is usually a short visit. A fob that no longer locks the doors, a remote that went through the wash, a second fob for a new driver in the house. We bring the right fob for your car to your driveway in Coronado or your office garage in San Diego, pair it, and have you test every button before we go.

Fobs come in more forms than most people expect. Some are a simple remote that only locks and unlocks. Some carry the transponder chip in the same shell. Smart keys for push-button start answer the car's signal when you touch the handle or press start, and they need a different pairing routine altogether. We handle all three, and we tell you which one you have before you spend anything.

Sometimes a fob that seems dead only needs a battery. We check that first. If it has failed or is lost, we program a new one and, if you want, remove the old one so it can never be used again.

What our key fob & remote programming covers

  • New fobs and remotes for most makes and models, supplied and paired on site
  • Replacement for a lost or stolen remote, with the old one deleted from the car
  • Extra fobs so every driver in the household has one
  • Smart key and proximity key pairing for push-button start
  • Fob battery replacement and a test of the signal afterward
  • Remote-head keys, where the blade and the buttons share one body

Common calls in Coronado and San Diego

Key not detected message at Seaport Village

The fob is in your pocket, the dash says the key is not detected, and the car will not start after a day by the water. We check the fob battery before anything else, since a weak CR2032 or CR2025 is the usual cause. A fresh battery keeps the fob's pairing, so nothing needs programming; if the fob itself has failed, we pair a new one at the lot.

Second fob lost at the 32nd Street gate

You still have one working fob, but the other went missing between the ship and the parking lot outside Naval Base San Diego. We meet you on the public side of the gate, pair a replacement to the car and erase the missing fob so it no longer unlocks the doors by remote or starts the engine. Bring your ID and the registration; the working fob stays paired throughout.

Fob cracked in a fall on University Avenue

The fob hit the sidewalk outside a taproom on University Avenue, the shell split and the buttons are loose in your hand. We open it up at the curb and look at the board. If the circuit board is intact, a new shell around it needs no programming at all; if the board is cracked, we pair a fresh fob to the car right there.

How key fob & remote programming works

  1. Tell us what you have

Text your year, make and model, plus a photo of the fob if you still have it. We quote the fob and the programming together.

  2. We arrive with the fob

We come to the car, check your ID and proof of ownership before we start, and confirm which type of fob your car takes.

  3. Pair and test

We connect to the car, pair the new fob and, if asked, erase old ones. You lock, unlock, pop the trunk and start the car before we leave.

Around Coronado and San Diego

A dead fob tends to show up at the worst spot. Coming back to the car at Central Beach on Ocean Boulevard with sand in the buttons, at the Coronado Ferry Landing after a day across the bay, or in a Coronado Cays driveway. In San Diego we program fobs in the parking structures around Petco Park and the Gaslamp Quarter, at Liberty Station in Point Loma, along Garnet Avenue in Pacific Beach and in the Fashion Valley garages in Mission Valley. Wherever the car is sitting, we can pair a fob there.

Key Fob & Remote Programming questions

Can I buy a fob online and have you program it?

Sometimes, but be careful. Many online fobs are the wrong frequency or have already been locked to another car, and those usually cannot be reused. Fobs we supply are matched to your VIN and included in the quote.

How many fobs can one car have?

It depends on the make, but most cars hold between four and eight keys in memory. If yours is full, we erase the ones you no longer have to make room.

Do you program fobs for European luxury brands?

Some, not all. We program fobs for most makes and models; ask about European luxury brands when you call and we will say plainly what is possible at the car.

My fob works up close but not from a distance. Is that a programming problem?

Usually not. Short range is almost always a weak battery or a worn contact inside the fob. We replace the battery and test it, and if it still struggles we can talk through a spare fob. Not sure it is the fob? Run through the fob-not-working checklist first.
