Honda key replacement in Coronado and San Diego
For Honda owners in Coronado and San Diego, a missing key does not have to mean a tow. Honda keys are fairly consistent across the range. Since the early 2000s most Hondas have had a chip in the key. A large share of Civics, Accords and CR-Vs use a remote-head key where the buttons live in the plastic head, and the newer ones with push-button start use a smart key. The blade itself is a high-security laser-cut type on many models, which needs the right cutting machine, and we carry it.
Honda key types we cut and program
Transponder chip keys
Most Hondas built since the early 2000s check for a chip before the engine will run. We program that chip at the car, whether you have a key to copy or not.
Remote-head keys
Many Honda models combine the blade, the chip and the lock and unlock buttons in one key. If the buttons quit but the blade is fine, a new remote-head key is paired and the old one dropped from memory.
Smart keys and push-to-start fobs
Newer Hondas with push-button start use a smart key that is paired to the vehicle rather than cut and copied. We carry compatible smart keys for most Honda models and pair them at the car.
Basic metal keys on older models
Hondas from before the immobilizer era start on a plain cut blade. For those, we cut the key to the code and you are done.

Honda key questions
My older Honda key is hard to turn in the ignition. Is that the key or the cylinder?
On older Civics and Accords it is often the cylinder. Worn wafers inside the ignition are commonly reported on those cars, and a worn key makes it worse. Try a spare key if you have one; if it turns cleanly, the original key is worn, and if it sticks the same way, the ignition needs attention. Our ignition repair service handles that at the car.
Can you make a Honda key with no original at all?
Yes. We obtain the key code for your vehicle, cut the blade on the laser-cut machine most Hondas need and program the chip or smart key to the car in the same visit. Have your ID and proof of ownership ready, since we check both before starting. See car key replacement for what to expect.
Do you program Honda smart keys on site?
